Makinde of PDP wins Oyo state from APC

Mr Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Oyo state and has been declared governor-elect.

Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the INEC Returning Officer, who is also the vice chancellor of the University of Lagos, declared the result on Sunday evening at the State headquarters of INEC in Ibadan.

Ogundipe, said that Makinde scored 515,621 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress(APC) who garnered 357,982 votes.

Bello re-elected in Niger State

Niger governor Abubakar Bello, who contested for a second term on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, has won the bid, according to the results of the Saturday polls announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Angela Miri.

Miri, Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, who announced the result on Sunday in Minna, said that Bello won the polls in all of the 25 local governments of the state.

PDP’s Fintiri set to topple APC’s Gov. Bindow in Adamawa

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Umaru Fintiri, is leading incumbent Gov. Muhammadu Bindow of Adamawa as INEC announced the results of 20 out of 21 local government areas in the state.

Fintiri is leading with 361,541 votes, while Bindow, elected on the All Progressives Congress platform in 2015 trails with 328,562 votes.

Nigerian Adesanmi among victims of Ethiopian Airlines plane crash

A Nigerian professor of linguistics, Pius Adesanmi, has been named as one of the 157 passengers and crew members that died in an Ethiopian Airlines plane crash on Sunday.

The plane, which was bound for Nairobi, crashed six minutes after leaving Addis Ababa for Nairobi in Kenya.

Mr Adesanmi’s death was confirmed by Sahara Reporters which said it spoke to three of his family members, a close friend and a Canadian official.

Mr Adesanmi, born in 1972, was also a columnist for Premium Times and Sahara Reporters.

PDP’s Agbaje suffers worse electoral defeat in Lagos

Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has emerged winner of the Saturday’s Governorship election in the state, beating Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party with 533,304 votes.

For Agbaje, the margin of loss was higher than what he recorded in 2015, when he lost to outgoing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. He then polled 659,738 votes to Ambode’s 812,394

APC Plateau lawmaker Ezekiel Afon dies after winning polls

Mr Ezekiel Afon, a lawmaker representing Pengana Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly has died hours after he was re-elected to represent the constituency.

Mr Bashir Sati, the Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state confirmed the lawmaker’s death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Jos.

According to Sati, Afon died Sunday afternoon after a brief illness.

El-Sherif Tunisia’s health minister quits after 11 babies died

Tunisia’s health minister Abdel-Raouf El-Sherif resigned on Saturday after 11 babies mysteriously died within 24 hours in a hospital in the capital, state news agency TAP said.

The health ministry and state prosecutors have launched investigations into the cause of the babies’ death which was likely due to a blood infection, it said.

Tunisians have complained about a decline of state services since the overthrow of Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011 which has brought a democratic transition but also thrown the country into an economic crisis.

Rivers : PDP wins Andoni State Constituency

Mr Awaji Ibani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has won the Andoni State Constituency seat in the River State House of Assembly.

Mr Kpang Meelorbari, Returner Officer for Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the area, declared Ibani the winner on Sunday, at Ngo, headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area.

Meelorbari, Lecturer, Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of Port Harcourt, said the PDP candidate scored the highest number of votes.

Nollywood Star Desmond Elliot re-elected in Lagos

Nollywood star, Desmond Elliot, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected in the Surulere constituency l Lagos State House of Assembly election.

In the result announced on Sunday, he scored 15,357 votes, while Benjamin Olasunkanmi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 3,628 votes.

The State Constituency Returning Officer, Dr Bolajoko Dixon-Ogbechi from the University of Lagos, made the declaration at the Surulere Local Government Collation Centre in Lagos.

Abdulrazaq set to be declared Kwara governor-elect

With 15 out of 16 local government results declared in Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress is on course to post a crushing defeat of the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

Already Abdulrazak has polled a total of 304,681 votes, with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Abdulrazaq Atunwa, polling a distant 107, 664 votes.

Only the result of Baruten local council is being awaited at the INEC office in Ilorin, where the collation is being done.
